ANDREW ELLICOTT
(1754-1820) American surveyor who helped map many of the territories west of the Appalachians, surveyed the boundaries of the District of Columbia, continued and completed Pierre (Peter) Charles L''Enfant''s work on the plan for Washington, D.C., and served as a teacher in survey methods for Meriwether Lewis. Good pair of signed documents, includes: A.D.S. "And''w Ellicott" as Secretary of the Land Office of Pennsylvania, 1p. 4to., Lancaster, Oct. 29, 1801, a true copy of an entry from Ellicott''s application book, relating to an application for a land claim submitted by Daniel McFall on Dec. 22, 1766. A paper and wax Seal of the State of Pennsylvania is affixed at left, and Ellicott signs at the conclusion in black ink. Folds, scattered foxing, minor splitting else very good. WITH: A.D.S. "And''w Ellicott" as Secretary of the Land Office of Pennsylvania, 1p. 4to., Lancaster, Dec. 29, 1802, a true copy of an entry from Ellicott''s application book, relating to an application for a land claim submitted by William Thompson on March 17, 1767. Folds. slight splitting and a minute spot of paper loss at lower left, else very good. Two pieces.
