Description:

AMERICAN WORLD WAR II "OVERPRINT" NOTES
Good pair of "overprinted" banknotes, issued by the U.S. government for special applications during World War II, includes: U.S. $1 silver certificate, series 1935A, bearing the legend "Hawaii" stamped vertically on two edges of the obverse, and in large text over the denomination on the reverse. These were issued as a countermeasure against a possible Japanese invasion of Hawaii; in the event of such an invasion, the U.S government would declare "Hawaii"-printed notes to be worthless, denying the Japanese a source of usable captured U.S. currency. Very good. WITH: PhillipinesPhilippines One Peso "Victory" note, series 66, bearing the portrait of early Filipino Prime Minister Apolinario Mabini, and bearing the legend "Victory" over the denomination on the reverse. Such notes were issued by the U.S. government beginning in 1944 as Allied forces retook the Phillipines from Japan, rendering Japanese occupation currency worthless. Very good. Also present is a 1922 series German "inflation" 10,000-mark note, very good. Three pieces.
