Description:

(AMERICAN SPIES) GUENTHER REINHARDT
GUENTHER REINHARDT (1904-1968) American investigative journalist and undercover FBI operative. In 1934, Reinhardt became a consultant to the House Un-American Activities Committee through 1935, thence a special employee of the FBI through 1943 with codename 'Hal Hart'. He infiltrated the news business and reported that J. Edgar Hoover was a 'queer', brought Whittaker Chambers to the attention of the FBI, and later exposed Richard M. Nixon's secret meetings with psychotherapist Dr. Arnold Hutschnecker, a discovery which helped John F. Kennedy win the presidency. A large group of ephemera from Reinhardt's scrapbook documenting his secret dealings, includes: an Assistant Sergeant at Arms pin from the Democratic Convention; a small Nazi flag stickpin, lapel button and chest eagle; League of Nations Jewish World Congress envelopes, press badge and ticket to the 1944 Republican National Convention; 1941 ticket to an 'America First Rally Against the War' event with speaker Charles Lindbergh; ten press passes; a stub from a German-American Bund event at Madison Square Garden, Oct. 3, 1937; and a few other lesser items. Many pieces bear glue and tape stains, some are torn. Sold as-is.
