Description:

Fine scrapbook and photo album compiled by Lt. Col. J.M. Ada Mutch of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, stationed in England and Northern Ireland during World War II, approx. 74pp folio. The album is filled with twenty-two original b/w photographs depicting the various hospitals Mutch staffed, her fellow nurses, and some recuperating soldiers, with a multitude of other relics and pieces of ephemera, including her War Department ID cards, her cloth nurse's armband, typed and handwritten poems and notes from wounded soldiers under her care, Dwight D. Eisenhower's message to the troops on D-Day, maps of England and Ireland, pressed flowers, theater programs, newspaper clippings, hospital news letters, memos on best medical practices, signatures and notes from friends and colleagues, and much else, too numerous and diverse to recount here. The album is disbound and the pages in fragile condition, showing many chips to the edges and with many of the contents detached, still a fine chronicle worthy of further research. Lt. Col. Mutch passed away in January of 2012 at the incredible age of 106, having remained active in nursing and volunteer organizations throughout her life. Should be seen.
