AMERICAN NAVY SAILOR''S DIARY
Brief World War I diary of U.S.N.R.F. Ensign. J. G. Hallett, 6pp. of sm. 8vo. text in pencil. Commences Aug. 24, 1918, in part: "...Boarded U.S.S. Mount Vernon [formerly the SS Kronprinzessin Cecilie, a seized German ocean liner] and layed by on dock for two days...proceeded down New York harbor amid cheers of people on other ships and on shore. Picked up French transport La France...U.S.S. Agamemnon followed...accompanied by three sub. chasers and three destroyers...Convoy shifted into position...La France fired at something. Probably a whale...Submarine sighted off port beam. La France and Mt. Vernon fired on it. Convoy zig zagged like the deuce...Met in morning by five U.S. destroyers...met by six sea planes...arrived at Brest...received orders for Pauillac...saw some U.S. hospital trains go by...flew H.S.[?] seaplane to U.S.N.A.S....went thru a good aerial gunnery and bombing course...Abdication of Kaiser announced and the probablse signing of armistice...French went wild. Was kissed many times by girls and women, ambraced more times, and had a broken arm shaking hands...Drank enough...to sink a ship. Just got away with it...jopined the parade of merry makers...every vehicle was out from dog carts...to the higher class cars..." With a small manuscript note assigning Hallet his locker and bunk, and the sailer''s "U.S.R." collar pin. Very good.

Shipments are sent via USPS Priority, USPS International Priority, DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made.
