A group of nine pieces by prominent military leaders, in various formats, includes: THOMAS S. POWER (1905-1970) American Army Air Corps general, commander of the 314th Bomb Wing (Very Heavy), promoted to brigadier general in January 1945. Power moved his B-29s to Guam in December 1944 as part of the 21st Bomber Command and from there directed the first large-scale fire bomb raid on Tokyo, March 9, 1945. T.L.S. 1p. 4to., Nebraska, May 6, 1960, on his official letterhead sending his autograph. WITH: COURTNEY H. HODGES (1887-1966) American Army officer who rose from private to general, commanded the First U.S. Army in northwest Europe first under Bradley, later succeeding him and displaying great leadership at the Bulge. Bold signature on a 3 x 5 in. card. WITH: WILLIAM B. FRANKE (1894-1979) Secretary of the Navy under Eisenhower. Bold signature on his official card. WITH: WILLIAM F. DEAN (1899-1981) U.S. Army major-general of World War II and the Korean War, recipient of the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Battle of Taejon and the highest-ranking American officer to be captured by North Korean forces. Bold signature adding rank on a 3 x 5 in. lined card. WITH: WILLIAM RABORN (1905-1990) American admiral and Director of the CIA. Bold signature on a 3 x 5 in. card adding rank. WITH: HERBERT G. HOPWOOD (1898-1966) American four-star admiral and commander-in-chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, 1958-60. Bold A.N.S. on a card imprinted with a flag, adding adding rank and date 1960. WITH: WILLIAM H. ‘HAP' ARNOLD (1901-1976) Lieutenant general. Bold signature on a 3 x 5 in. card. WITH: MAXWELL D. TAYLOR (1901-1987) Senior United States Army officer and diplomat, served in World War II as Commander of 101st Airborne Division nicknamed 'The Screaming Eagles'. Bold signature on his imprinted Major General card. WITH: A. C. NIEDERMAYER. Signature on a 3 x 5 in. card. Overall very good condition, nine pieces.
