A large grouping of war-date and post-war material from U.S. Military Intelligence T/Sgt. Ward P. Lanier who served from August, 1944 until well after war's end, largely with the 507th Counter-Intelligence Corps, 7th Armored Division. A wealth of fascinating training material is present, including the 1940 booklet ("Restricted") "Examination of Enemy Personnel, Repatriates, Documents, and Materiel", 28pp. 12mo.; 1943 booklet ("Restricted") "Tentative Manual of Military Intelligence", 38pp. 12mo.; and Lanier's fascinating notebook of notes from his training, 130pp. 8vo., all penned in a meticulous hand. Lanier details topics discussed on a daily basis, including various CIC operations in Sicily, the ETO, North Africa, and the Far East; Soviet, Japanese, Italian, Dutch and French governmental structures policies, and police systems, post-1918 German history, Nazi politics, propaganda, governmental administration, etc.; Spanish Falangists, observation techniques; interrogation; codes and ciphers; informants and surveillance; lock-picking; telephone "bugging"; evidence; investigations; and much more. Also included are six reports, some "Confidential", on invasion theories, informants, etc.; a list of 204 soldiers questioned; a "Secret" Oct. 30, 1944 Counter-Intelligence Report including investigations, arrests, a "black list", and much more; and a few post-war articles, clippings, etc. Overall a very informative collection.
