Description:

AMERICAN MEDIC'S M1 HELMET
World War II-era steel M1 helmet with swivel strap bales and a front-facing seam, indicating manufacture between 1943 and 1945. The exterior bears a very heavy, dark green cork finish, and the front, rear and sides each bear an approx. 4" square medic's "red cross" insignia, hand-applied in red and white paint. A 1 1/2" dia. dent appears on the dome, with a smaller and shallower dent immediately adjacent. The rim also shows a second seam adjacent to the right-hand strap bale. The interior front skirt of the shell is heat-stamped "9|01", indicating manufacture by the McCord Radiator and Manufacturing Company, while the ink number "N-6471" is inscribed directly below. The interior of the shell also bears the ink inscriptions "Aiello" and "Shit Hole Bowl" in blue and red, respectively. The helmet is fitted with a Westinghouse liner showing all the hallmarks of wartime manufacture, with a white paint inscription nearly obliterated. A white string camouflage net has been added to the shell, and the original chin strap is absent. Shows expected wear, else very good.
