Description:

AMERICAN GENERALS SEND SHOULDER PATCHES
Good lot of ten letters of American generals of World War II sent to a admirer who had sent them newspaper clippings and asked for a shoulder patch as a souvenir. Most of the letters sent by the generals are on official letterhead, and many included the requested patch. Includes generals ROBERT T. FREDERICK (1907-1970), 49th Infantry; ALLISON J. BARNETT (d. 1971), 70th Infantry; CURTIS LEMAY (1906-1990), 20th Air Force: "...I prefer a Havana cigar...but out here one becomes accustomed to smoking any brand he is fortunate enough to obtain..."; WILLIAM C. CHASE (1895-1986) 38th Infantry, letter initialed in pencil; with patch; LEROY P. HUNT (1892-1968) 2nd Marine Div. with patch; ALVAN C. GILLEM (1888-1973), XIII Corps, sends patch; WILLARD S. PAUL (1894-1966), 26th Infantry, with patch and self-censored signed envelope; ROBERT L. EICHELBERGER (1886-1961) Eighth Army, with patch; and COURTNEY HODGES (1887-1966), 87th Infantry, with patch. Alsao present is a 91st Div. patch sent by a soldier in Italy. Regrettably, all of the letters were mounted to album pages with tape at the margins, but not glued down. Some bear stains and offsetting from dampness as well.
