Collection of approximately 25 letters and documents from American consular officials dating from 1796 to 1904 (mostly 1830-1860). Included is: CHARLES EMORY SMITH (1842-1908), American journalist and statesman; U.S. Postmaster General; U.S. Minister to Russia (1842-1908). A.L.S., as Minister to Russia, 1p, Dec. 6, 1890, 8vo, friendly content. WITH NATHANIEL BEVERLY TUCKER (1820-90), journalist and diplomat; served the Confederacy as an economic agent to England and France. A.L.S. "Beverly Tucker" as U.S. Consul at Liverpool, England, 1 1/2pp, April 30, 1858, 8vo, trying to apprehend a man named "Gish." WITH HENRY COOK HALL (1820-1901), American diplomat. Partly printed D.S., "Henry C Hall", as U.S. Consul at Havana, Cuba, 1p, March 27, 1869, 4to, re purchases. WITH ROBERT MONTGOMERY (1754-?), Irish merchant; appointed by President Thomas Jefferson to be U.S. Consul at Alicante, Spain (1793). Partly printed D.S., "Robt.
