Description:

Scarce and interesting World War I-era poster, 21 1/4" x 28", released by the American Committee for Relief in the Near East (ACRNE), which was founded in 1915 to provide humanitarian relief to the Armenian and Assyrian genocides then being committed by the Ottoman Empire, and which expanded to provide aid across the Middle East following the collapse of that empire at the end of World War I. This poster presents a map of the middle east, overlaid with the declaration "Where the Victims Are" in bold red letters. At left, the poster lists the square mileage of the region, the number of "Non-Moslems (Christians)" living in the region in 1914, and the number of those who have died of starvation. Below appears the exhortation: "Save the Survivors - 3,950,000 Starving People". The bottom lists the New York address of the Committee's treasurer, Cleveland H. Dodge, and their campaign goal of $30,000,000. No publishing information is listed. Backed with archival linen, shows slight surface wear, else very good to fine.
