(1897 - 1937) American aviator, the first woman to cross the Atlantic, first solo across the Atlantic and first Hawaii-Mainland solo; lost in an around-the-world attempt. SIGNED BOOK, WITH THE RARE 'FRIENDSHIP' FLOWN FLAG Her very rare limited edition signed book: '20 Hrs. 40 Min.' (New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons), 1928. 'Author's Autograph Edition' no. 16/150, 374pp. 8vo. in red cloth and marbled boards with gold titles, signed 'Amelia M. Earhart' on the front limitation page. Of special interest is the fact that this edition includes one of the 3 x 2 1/8 in. silk American flags flown aboard the aircraft Friendship from Boston to Wales. The flag is set behind acetate and above a printed description, fixed to the front paste down. In very fine condition, The ends of the spine and cover corners only very lightly worn, with matching slipcase. In this book, Earhart writes about her experiences as a passenger in the Friendship, when she became the first woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean by air in 1928 (she later accomplished the feat in a solo flight). Earhart combines actual log entries made during the flight with recollections of her childhood and how she first became interested in aviation.
