Description:

AMBROTYPOE OF A CONFEDERATE PRISONER
Ruby red ambrotype depicting a man who is most likely a Confederate prisoner, probably taken after his parole or release. The photo, 2" x 2 1/2", shows a hefty, bearded man half-length and seated, a slouch hat upon his head, and he has wrapped himself in a gray blanket which bears two thin stripes - a pattern typical to that issued to Confederate soldiers. Of course, there is no logical reason for a man to pay for a photograph dressed in such a manner...The photo is set into a brown gutta percha case with a filigree design, in mint condition.
