(1824 - 1881) Union major general who is known for the disastrous charges made at Fredericksburg in 1862, and the nicknaming of distinctive facial hair. A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., Annapolis, Dec. 29, [n.y.], to Mrs. Albert Dailey, in part: "...If you come to Annapolis within three or four days you will be able to see your brother...". With original envelope bearing an Executive Department vignette at top left, very good condition.
