Description:

ALLACH FOUR BRANCH FIVE CANDLE HOLDER PRESENTED TO JAKOB GRIMMINGER
Pre-1939 Allach baroque four-branch five candle table candelabra, 12 3/4" tall, 12" wide, the fluting carefully accented with gold paint. This piece was designed by Franz Nagy and bears the expected stylized SS runes and Allach hallmark at bottom. Additionally, this candelabrum has been personalized for presentation to SS-Standartenfuhrer JAKOB GRIMMINGER (1892-1969). Four panels on the base of the piece bear such hand-painted personalization: Grimminger's name above a wreath of oak leaves, the Feldherrenhalle, scene of the shooting during the Beer Hall Putsch, is shown with a gold swastika with sun rays; a gold eagle clutching a wreath of oak leaves enclosing the date of the Munich putsch and the years 1923 and 1933; and the date of the presentation of this gift, "9.NOV. 1938". Fine condition. Grimminger's name became synonymous with the "Blutfahne", the blood-stained flag carried during the abortive putsch. He was tasked with carrying the flag at all official ceremonies, and protecting it when it was used to "consecrate" all other flags and standards. At the end of the war Grimminger was stripped of his property. As for the porcelain itself, the porcelain factory Porzellan Manufaktur Allach was established as a private concern in 1935. In 1936 the factory was acquired by Heinrich Himmler to produce works of art that would represent, in Himmler's eyes, true Germanic culture. Production was based at Allach, the largest sub camp of Dachau, and it used slave labor in the production of these pieces.
