ALFRED JODL AND AUGUST WINTER
ALFRED JODL (1890 - 1946) Hitler's Chief of Operations who signed the act of military surrender, tried at Nuremberg for war crimes and executed. Superb association war-date typed D.S. ‘Approved Jodl' 2pp. legal folio, [Berlin], March 10, 1945. A recommendation for the promotion of Hans-Georg von Brauchitsch, then Major of the General Staff, to Oberstleutnant (Group Leader) of the South Operations Staff. Von Brauchitsch is noted as being: ‘…a particularly decent, open character…well-equipped and very conscious of his work. He has…mastered the challenges of his theater of war. Br's talent and ability are rounded off by particularly adroit and tactful manners to a level of unity that is rarely found in a young office…a popular comrade. Overall, a military officer with above-average abilities who deserves respect…'. Boldly signed by Jodl at the conclusion, additionally signed by AUGUST WINTER (1897-1979) General of Mountain Troops and later Chief of Staff of the 2ns Panzer Army. Two years after this document, Winter would be promoted to General of Gebirgstruppe. File holes at the left, else fine.
