Description:

Alfred H. Colquitt 1824-1894 Confederate brigadier general who commanded a brigade under Hill at Antietam, and at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Petersburg. A fine lot of postal history, ten letters and documents concerning a lady's claim for back pay due her father for services as a postmaster in the South during the Civil War Colquitt pens an A.L.S. on Senate letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, June 5, 1890: I am constantly in receipt of such enclosures... I shall be very glad to cooperate with Col Lester... it is very difficult to get these matters attended to. Other letters in the lot are from prominent Georgians Rufus E. Lester, Confederate colonel and Mayor of Savannah, Thomas M. Norwood, and Charles G. Edwards. Interesting.
