Description:

ALEXANDRE DUMAS, FILS (1824 - 1895) French novelist and playwright, the natural son of Alexandre Dumas, pere. Fine content A.L.S, 12pp. 8vo., Paris, [n.d.], in French. Dumas angrily and passionately responds to a review which appeared in the monthly literary, cultural and political affairs magazine "Revue des Deux Mondes". In part: "...It's time that will place things, especially literary matters, where they belong. The author is always in the worst position to discuss his own body of work, while the public is judging it...I don't belong to a caste, or school or church and nobody or anything on earth could make me do anything that I don't want to do or prevent me from saying what I have to say...We live in a time where very few people have the right or the means to say what they thin and where those who really think about something are really rarer...As to women, fighting between the ignorance of the father who doesn't know how to instruct, the husband who doesn't know how to utilize her, and finally left with the lover or the priest, she doesn't lack interest either..." Shows a neat split along the fold between the pages on the first leaf, else fine condition.
