Alexander S. Asboth 1811-1868 Union brigadier general of Hungarian birth, he served as Fremont's chief of staff and was later severely wounded at both Marianna and Pea Ridge. War date D.S. 2pp. 4to., Barrancas, Fl., Aug. 15, 1864 A captain in the 2nd Me. Cavalry writes a letter of resignation citing his superior officer's veiled accusation of his drunkenness. On the verso, Asboth denies the resignation, and further cites that many other such resignations had been received from the same regiment, hinting at mutinous conduct some soiling, otherwise very good.
