ALEXANDER MCDOUGALL
(1731 - 1786) Revolutionary major general whose early patriotic writings landed him in jail, later a street leader and principal actor in the revolutionary movement. Appointed major general to assume command of West Point and environs following the flight of Benedict Arnold. Large, bold signature, "Alex McDougall " cut from a document, adding date in his hand: "21st Jany 1784". Countersigned by New York mayor JAMES DUANE. Light toning with minor foxing, else very good.
