Description:

ALBERTO VARGAS
Fine content A.L. (unsigned), 2pp. 4to., Switzerland, [1978], to noted art dealer J. P. Nyffeler, whom Vargas had not seen for several years. He updates his friend on personal and business matters, in part: "...You must pardon my very hazy memory...everything is cloudy and foggy in my mind; the more so since I've lost my beloved wife 'Anna Mae', my first model since I landed in New York (1915)...Oh what a stunning beauty she was...I have been living enveloped in a cocoon of traumatic despair from which I am now just beginning to emerge, to perform a sacred duty, that of honoring her memory by finishing some 200 pictures I conceived of 40 years ago...I've taken notice of your efforts trying to find back numbers of Esquire and Playboy, etc. It is a mania that some unscrupulous people indulge in tearing the pages with my own girls in them...even in public libraries! I feel flattered but not by that vandalism. How did you guess so accurately what my still steady hand, and still nimble imagination was cooking for this year? For the last 12 months I've been engaged in the monumental task of gathering all that's needed to construct the 'Vargas' story...". Light chipping and staining to bottom margin, written on a sheet of notepaper torn from a notebook, very good condition.
