Description:

(1905-1981) Nazi German architect and Minister of Armaments and War Production, convicted of war crimes at Nuremburg. Good content and association T.L.S. in German, 2pp. 4to., Heidelberg, Jan. 14, 1971, a friendly letter addressed to his Jewish-American acquaintance Paul Kahn - a German architect who once worked with the Kaiser, who was later thrown out of Germany by the Gestapo, then befriended Speer and exchanged letters. In part: '...I have not answered up to this time because I had hoped Mr. Joachim Fest would have returned the photocopy of Eva Braun's diary to me. He needed it certainly for his work on a Hitler biography. It is an essential part...contained in the book of Nerin E. Gun. If the book is an accurate overview then it will provide a correct vision of Eva Braun. Mr. Gun visited me to determine my opinion...I would be very much pleased if we could meet...maybe I'll have the [Eva Braun] diary back in my possession...' JOACHIM FEST was the first German writer to create a major biography of Adolf Hitler in 1973, referenced above, and later served as the editorial aide for Speer while he worked on his autobiography. According to an earlier letter from Kahn to Speer (a photocopy of which is included with this lot), Kahn '...knew Eva Braun personally when she was working for the photographer Hofmann in Munich...', explaining his interest in her autobiography. Signed at the conclusion. Light creases at the top edge, else very good. Interestingly, according to a letter from Kahn to Speer (a photocopy of which is included with this lot), Kahn '...knew Eva Braun personally when she was working for the photographer Hofmann in Munich...' This lot was taken from a large grouping of correspondence between the two men, and comes with a scan of a letter from our consigner, providing some further details into Speer and Kahn's relationship.
