Description:

ALBERT SPEER
(1905-1981) Nazi architect and Minister of Armaments and War Production, convicted of war crimes at Nuremburg. T.L.S. 2pp. 4to., Heidelberg, June 24, 1972, on his personal letterhead to Paul Kahn, a German-Jewish architect who once worked with the Kaiser, and was later ousted from Germany by the Gestapo. In part: ‘…If I were a fortune teller, I could have predicted that my Memoirs would sell by itself in America…Everyday, I write somewhere between five to six letters to Americans to promote my book…You have been so nice and have written to me, if you have any wishes from me, just let me know…The same goes for your son. Maybe it would please him if I could obtain a few notes from [Carl] Zuckmayer, with whom I correspond. He has a great interest in my book and we will see each other soon after my trip to Switzerland…[Your] note about the film was valuable to me because the contract expressly states that my work on it remains anonymous. I wrote to the film company accordingly!...'. Zuckmayer (1896-1977) was a German-Jewish writer and playwright of works that deal with issues stemming from the two World Wars. He fled to the United States in 1939 after the Anschluss, and then to Switzerland. In 1952, his collected works were awarded the Goethe Prize. Fine condition.
