Description:

ALBERT SPEER
(1905 - 1981) Nazi German architect and Minister of Armaments and War Production, convicted of war crimes at Nuremberg. Fine content T.L.S. on his personal letterhead, 2pp. 4to., Heidelberg, Oct. 5, 1978 in German to a researcher. In small part: '...I have spoken publicly on several occasions...and at a congress attended by Eugen Kogon and Jean Amery, both concentration camp inmates...It was the first time that I sat at a table with them. Kogon was fine, Amery felt hurt. I will have the manuscript of my presentation copied and will then make a copy available to you on loan. Other than that, I'm feeling high. My architecture book is supposed to come out at the book fair, around the middle to the end of this month, although large print runs are not to be expected. The publisher thinks he is already optimistic when he offers the German market five thousand copies, and there is actually no real interest abroad either. Once the book is out, it will be my pleasure to send you a copy. But that won't be until November. They also ask about the new book about the SS in armor. A hard and lengthy subject, which in the meantime has stretched to about a thousand typewritten pages...But something always comes up...I want to write something for the 'Bulletin of Atomic Science' in October/November. You can see that in a way I'm still in demand, though I enjoy seeing this wide span of architecture united to the details of armor...' Fine.
