ALBERT KESSELRING
(1885 - 1960) Field Marshal in the Luftwaffe tried for war crimes. His death sentence commuted due to ill health. A.L.S. 1p., tall 8vo, Venice, Apr. 23, 19[47?], in German on "Prisoner of War Post" letterhead to his wife Pauline from POW Transit Camp 317 while awaiting trial for war crimes. In part: "...Nothing new here either! Except to disclose that I am well... I had an extraordinary political discussion with Bresche [?], Cafidrich [?], and Maltser [?] yesterday evening...". Addressed in Kesselring's hand with a holograph return address "Feldmarschall Kesselring", and signed "Albert" at the letter's conclusion. Fine.
