Description:

(1883 - 1963) 1st Viscount Alanbrooke. Chief of the Imperial General Staff (CIGS) and promoted to field marshal in 1944. As chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee, Brooke was the foremost military adviser to Winston Churchill and had the role of coordinator of the British military efforts in the Allies' victory in 1945. Good lot of two items, includes an S.P., 5 x 7 in. b/w, shows Alanbrooke seated and in full regalia, signed with rank and dated at top, fine; WITH an A.L.S. on his field marshal's letterhead, 2pp. oblong 8vo., Ferney Close, Sep. 16, 1960. The field marshal offers to sign his correspondent's book and also sends a signed photograph (offered here) and regrets how he appears in the image, explaining: "...it is the only spare one I have at present. It was taken at the coronation [of Elizabeth II] when I was commanding the troops in the procession..." Two pieces, fine.
