Description:

Extremely rare flight jacket constructed of khaki cotton fabric, as worn by crew members of Air America, the airline covertly operated by the CIA to secretly move arms, equipment, food and drugs throughout Asian airspace from which American military aircraft were officially barred, including in Burma, Laos, Cambodia, China and Vietnam. The jacket is fitted with a zipper closure and four flap-covered patch pockets, with and adjustable waist belt at the rear and buttoned epaulets at the shoulder. The jacket is reversible, with the interior featuring a "tiger stripe" camouflage pattern, a patch pocket at each hip, a second waist belt and epaulets at the shoulders. The garment is devoid of any labels or identifying markings, as appropriate for the covert nature of the enterprise. While the khaki side was appropriate for the nominally civilian nature of the operation, the camouflage interior was apparently provided to aid the survival of aircrews shot down over enemy-held jungle areas. Shows a single hole between to top and bottom pockets on the left-hand side, else very good to fine. Ex. Jason Hardy.
