Description:

ADOLF HITLER'S BERGHOF TEA CUP AND SAUCER
An intimate Hitler relic, his personal teacup and saucer, hand-decorated and used by him at the Berghof, possibly at the "Teehaus" where he took his daily walk and tea. The cup is 2" tall and 4 1/4" wide at the handle, and bears images of grapes and flowers, with a cluster of grapes at the bottom of the cup which is supported by a red gilt-trimmed handle. The saucer measures 5 5/8" across, with chestnut and rose decorations, and the initials "A H " in gilt lettering. Both pieces are marked Meissen, and the cup signed by artist "Sofie Stork 1938". Fine condition. This item was purchased for inclusion in the Latttimer collection, from militaria dealers Mohawk Arms who have over fifty years experience. Provenance, available to potential bidders, includes a copy of Mohawk's 1975 catalog listing which describes their ten-year search for accredited Hitler-owned items, resulting in only 19 items of which this set is one, and is illustrated. They note that the cup and saucer came from the Berghof, and: "...are the only known Hitler cups and saucers known to have survived the war...". Also present is a copy of Mohawk's 1975 letter to the purchaser and invoice for the cup. Incredibly, the box containing this cup was opened in January, 2009! Of course, this was a very informal item, undoubtedly used only in private. Sofie Stork (1903-1981) was a friend of Eva Braun and the sometime lover of Wilhelm Brueckner. She was decorated at the Berghof, and essentially financially supported by Hitler. At war's end she was briefly interned. A true rarity.
