Description:

(1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. Superb oversize I.S.P., 12 x 15 in. b/w (overall), a rare half-length pose of the dictator with his arms crossed before him, his gold party badge evident above his Iron Cross. Hitler writes: "Herrn Hauptmann Stach in memory of the Sudeten commitment, dedicated - Adolf Hitler - Berlin the 8th December 1938." Contrast of Hitler's last name is weak, otherwise in excellent condition. The photo is accompanied by a letter of transmittal by Hitler's army adjutant, GERHARD ENGEL (1906-1976), Generallieutenant who served as Hitler's adjutant, and in 1943, was transferred to the Western Front fighting at Aachen, the Hurtgen Forest, and the Bulge. A Knights Cross with Oak Leaves recipient. Engel's letter is on official letterhead, 1p. 4to., Berlin, Dec. 12, 1938. He states that he sends the photo in a silver frame with a personal signature in memory of the Sudetenland invasion. He also notes that due to the small number of available images and with respect to the desire of the Fuhrer to only send such pictures in very special cases, no unnecessary further use of the image (ie: publication) should be undertaken. Engels adds at conclusion: "Congratulations!" From the estate of Col. Alfred Stach who served as signal officer at Hitler's headquarters and later as army signal commander of the 19th Army.
