Description:

ADOLF HITLER
(1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. Very rare hand-made New Year's card sent by Hitler to his close friend Philipp Bouhler, 9 3/4" x 3 1/2", bearing on one side an original drawing of a cherub bearing a wreath and hovering over a snow-covered landscape. Opposite, Hitler boldly signs, adding the date Jan. 1, 1941. Bouhler's name has been added to the gilt front of the card. Fine condition. The card was designed and made by Eva Braun's close friend, Sofie Stork, who also designed and decorated much of the informal dining ware used at the Berghof. When her husband, adjutant Wilhelm Bruekner, took up with another woman, Hitler banished him from his court. PHILIPP BOUHLER (1889-1945) was the chief supervisor of Hitler's euthanasia program which ordered the "mercy killings" of thousands of retarded, deformed and mentally ill Germans.
