Description:

ADOLF HITLER (1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. Very important and historically significant D.S. as Chancellor, 1p. legal folio, Berlin, April 10, 1933 on ornate "In Namen des Reichs" letterhead with blind-embossed eagle. Just weeks after elections and the Reichstag fire, Hitler consolidates his power, here appointing Franz Ritter von Epp "Reichsstatthalter" (""governor") of Bavaria. Hitler signs at bottom right in black ink, with German President PAUL VON HINDENBURG (1847-1934) signing very boldly in black ink above. FRANZ RITTER VON EPP (1868-1946) was a very early supporter of Hitler, commanding the Munich S.A., serving as a member of the Reichstag and head of the Colonial Political Office of the NSDAP. The signatures of Hitler and Hindenburg are rarely found together on one document. Also present is an associated T.L.S., 1p. 4to., Berlin, April 11, 1933, from Minister and Chief of the Reich Chancellery HANS LAMMERS (1879-1962), to von Epp, transmitting his appointment and noting that Hitler is on a short vacation, but expresses his thanks to von Epp for his promise of dedication and diligence to his new position. Both documents are matted and mounted together in a gold-trimmed black frame, 22 ¼" x 16 ½" overall, and both show the slightest traces of soiling, else very good to fine.
