ADOLF HITLER (1889-1945) Dictator of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. Historic and very rare A.Ms. (unsigned), 5pp. 8vo., [Berlin, ca. May 1, 1937], being Hitler's own notes for his important speech delivered on May Day, May 1, 1937 to over 120,000 Hitler Youth members at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. The notes are hurriedly penned on the verso of five of Hitler's personal gold-embossed correspondence cards, each 7.75 x 5 in. They are not easily legible, but read in part: '...Greeting Youth May 1 German Festival of Spring. Then May 1st day of Class Battle May 1st Day of nat[ional]. Work Day of the nat[ional. Joy Day of nat[ional]. Community A long way from clans and [?] castes and states a ring, finally a people...What is harder to appreciate, you appreciate more...Care for the future. Therefore: care for our youth. The youth of now. The people of tomorrow. Community on a small scale. No fragmentation. Only: a German youth...A healthy youth. A proud youth of boys. A stronghold of the girls. A brave youth. Not hard to [?] impact resistant... frankly open, but above all camaraderie...Loyalty - obedient...a joyful cheerful youth. You should love Germany, you should love Germany. Already be the great home. Proud of history. Proud of the present. Believe in the future...' Of course, Hitler was able to greatly expand on his speech notes, and always did. His ability to read his audience and to react to their attitude, enthusiasm and desires were qualities that immeasurably aided his rise to power. Light soiling and a paperclip stain to one page, else near fine.
