Description:

ADOLF HITLER (1889-1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. Excellent association D.S. with inscription on his partly-printed Christmas and New Year greetings card, 1p. 7 x 4.5 in., Berlin, Dec. 24, 1935 to GRETL BRAUN, (1915-1987), his future sister-in-law following Hitler's marriage to EVA BRAUN. In full: "Ms. Gretl Braun! Sincere Christmas- and New year's wishes and best thanks for the presents". He signs in black ink at the conclusion. Shows slight wear to the edges, else very good to fine. Gretl was a member of the inner social circle of Adolf Hitler at the Berghof. She married SS-Gruppenführer Hermann Fegelein, a liaison officer on Hitler's staff, on 3 June 1944. Fegelein would be shot for desertion in the closing days of World War II. In his final days in the Fuhrerbunker, Hitler refused to spare Fegelein's life, despite Eve Braun's please for mercy.
