Description:

ADOLF HITLER'S SILVER FORMAL ELECTRIC TEA KETTLE WITH STAND
An Adolf Hitler relic of great rarity, a sterling silver electric tea kettle with stand from the formal 3,000 piece set of silverware given to Hitler by Albert Speer on the occasion of Hitler's 50th birthday, April 20, 1939. The kettle itself stands approx. 9.25 in. tall with the black Bakelite handle standing up, and it is approx. 11.5 in. wide including the spout and electrical plug connection at bottom. The left side of the kettle bears a perfectly engraved formal eagle with swastika and flanking 'A H' initials, the emblem 2 3/8 in. wide. The removeable lid has a vent hole and a round grip, also made of black Bakelite. There is some wear to the larger Bakelite handle, and one of its hinges is slightly bent, not affecting usage nor easily discernable. The heads of two pins securing the handle to the hinges are also missing, this too not in any way detracting. Within the teapot is a heating element surrounded by a silver sheath, and the teapot is accompanied by an electric cord adapted for 120v, but it is untested and the heating element likely requires 240v. The kettle is accompanied by a matching four-legged stand, 4.25 in. tall, and the teapot would rest upon this stand as the water was being heated. Two silver pins with chains are provided to safely secure the teapot to the stand. Both the teapot and the stand are hallmarked 'BWKS' for Bremer Werkstatten fur kunstgewerbliche Silberarbeiten, a German silver workshop founded by Wilhelm Schulze in Bremen, active from approximately 1890 to 1947. This was high-quality, artisan-produced German silver, and the firm specialized in hollowware, including bowls, trays, and tea sets. Both pieces are also purity stamped '835' with the kettle additionally stamped '5025', possibly an inventory number. Neither the teapot nor its stand show and significant dents, dings, scratches or other significant damage. According to our consignor, he purchased this piece in Hamburg in April, 1988 from the estate of Elfriede and Leo Raubal, children of Angela Hitler (1883-1949), Adolf's half sister, who married twice and had the names Raubal and Hammitzsch. They also inherited the estate of their aunt, Paula Hitler. Both of Hitler's sisters, Angela and Paula, were present at Berchtesgaden near war's end and our consignor speculates that the tea kettle - as well as other items he was offered in 1988 - was given to the sisters for safekeeping. Simply one of the best personality pieces obtainable.
