Description:

A fine association piece, the signatures of ADOLF HITLER, RUDOLF HESS, his wile ILSE HESS, sister MARGARETE HESS, ERNST HANFSTAENGL and two others identified, penned in ink on a 4to. sheet dated Oct. 13, 1930. This piece was signed on a historic day, when the newly-elected Hitler and his deputies - having increased their seats in the Reichstag from 12 to 130 seats -marched in unison into the Reichstag and took their seats. When the roll call was taken, each one shouted: 'Present! Heil Hitler!' Rudolf Hess (1894-1987) served as Hitler's Deputy Fuhrer and second in command after Goering, and he was was one of Hitler's closest confidantes and friends. Ilse Hess (1900-1995), Rudolf's wife, was active in seeking Hitler's liberation from Spandau, and authored 'Prisoner of Peace' and other books about her husband. Margarete 'Greta' Hess (1908-1998) was the sister of Rudolf Hess. German businessman Ernst Hanfstaengl (1887-1975), helped finance Hitler's manifesto 'Mein Kampf', and also became head of the Foreign Pross Bureau in Berlin. Once a confidante of Hiller, he fell out of favor and fled Germany in 1939. He resurfaced in the U.S. several years later, where he worked as a spy for Franklin D. Roosevelt's 'S-Project', detailing Hitler's private life and giving information on approximately 400 other Nazi leaders. On verso is an 18-line poem in German by an unidentified fellow partier, a drinking song attacking bankers, praising German song and Arthur Kannenberg in particular, in part: '...Even if the world took everything from you, Cherish one treasure, German Heart, The German Song, It sounds so marvelous rising heavenward...' From Kannenberg's private guestbook from the 'Brown House'. Fine condition, a nice association. ARTHUR KANNENBERG was a hefty, jovial singer, accordion player and Hitler's house manager and master of ceremonies. Undoubtedly, Hitler, Hess, and friends were heartily celebrating the night this guest book page was signed.
