ADOLF HITLER, PROPONENT OF EUTHANASIA, PRESENTS A SIGNED PHOTO TO A DISABLED GIRL
ADOLF HITLER (1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. I.S.P. 7" x 9" b/w, a stern close-up bust portrait, inscribed: "For Lotte Gronberg with sincere best wishes Adolf Hitler Berlin Dec. 1937". "H" in signature just a tad light, else very good. Set in a period frame. Accompanied by a T.L.S. of ALBERT BORMANN, brother of Party Secretary Martin Bormann, 1p. sm. 4to., Berlin, Dec. 20, 1937 on Hitler's personal letterhead, sending the inscribed photo to Miss Gronberg "...for the festival", referring to the winter solstice festival of December 21st. What is most intriguing about this item is the fact that Hitler inscribed this photograph in response to a handicapped young girl who had composed a poem for him describing her affliction and expressing her heartfelt devotion to her leader. The typed poem is included in the lot, and reads in part: "...Gladly I would stand for hours and hours to see the Fuhrer just once. But it cannot be done as I am banned to a chair or wagon, paralyzed in my hand, paralyzed are my feet from the beginning...My tongue is paralyzed a little, ashamed of my speech from time to time and often therefore teased....When adults and kids surround the Fuhrer which all of us love, then I would love to be there with them...Only once I would like to see the Fuhrer. With stiff fingers, and very much without skills, did I make a small table cloth? I hope my Fuhrer will accept this small gift...God bless him and our Fatherland. God sent him as our savior...". Tragically, Hitler's euthanasia program sought to eliminate those with genetic defects from the gene pool, and most likely this unfortunate girl very likely ended up as one of his victims.
