ADOLF HITLER (1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. Partly-printed D.S., 1p. 4to., Berlin, October 1935, a promotion document for Captain Ernst Mersmann-Munster to the rank of major. In part: '...I perform this act in the expectation that the appointed, in accordance with the Reich Constitution and the laws, will fully justify his professional duties for the good of the Reich and the confidence shown in him by this appointment. At the same time, I assure him of the special protection of the Reich...' Hitler signs at the bottom, co-signed by HERMANN GORING (1893-1946), German politician who began his career as an ace in World War I, rose to become Hitler's right-hand man and head of the Luftwaffe, finally captured and committed suicide on the eve of his execution. Also signed by WERNER VON BLOMBERG (1887-1946), Minister of Defense and Supreme Commander of the German Armies early in Hitler's regime, resigned following accusations that he had married a prostitute. Embossed German national eagle surrounded by a wreath of laurels at bottom left. SOLD WITH Soldbuch issued to the recipient of the promotion, Oberst Ernst Mersmann-Munster, a flight Battalion Commander, in Ansbach, Germany, issued November 20, 1939. The soldbuch contains personal information including photo in uniform, various locations of assignment, primarily Garmisch, and also Frankfurt am Main and Heidelberg, also showing pay schedules, dates of leave and awards that were received, including: Knight's Cross and House Order of Hohenzollern with Swords with numerous stamps and entries from 1939-1945. Mildly creased with slight separation of the spine on the outside, else very good. Two pieces.
