Description:

Highly-important draft typed order with multiple pencil corrections and additions in the hand of ADOLF HITLER, 1p. large 4to., "Fuhrer Headquarters", September, 1942. This is the draft of one of the most devastating orders to ever leave Hitler's desk, the dictator's empowerment of General Plenipotentiary for Labor Deployment FRITZ SAUCKEL (1894-1946) to appoint commissioners in the various occupied territories "to take all necessary measures for the enforcement" of the decree of 21st March 1942, namely the "utilization of all available manpower, including that of workers recruited abroad and of prisoners of war". The text reads, in part: "...In order to carry out his duties further, I authorize the General Plenipotentiary for Employment, Gauleiter and Reich Governor Fritz Sauckel, to take all measures in the Reich, in the occupied territories...as he sees fit, which will continue to ensure orderly work for the German war economy...He can appoint officers from the military and civil administration - with the exception of the area of ??operations. They shall report directly to the general representative for labor. The military and civilian departments responsible for employment and wage policy in the occupied eastern territories (excluding the operational area) are available to carry out [these] duties..." Fine condition. Under the authority which he obtained by this decree and that issued on March 21, Sauckel set up the systematic exploitation, by force, of the what amounted to over five million slave laborers taken from the occupied territories. This document and the handwriting is authenticated by an accompanying 1989 T.L.S. by GERTRAUD "TRAUDL" JUNGE (1920-2002), Adolf Hitler's last private secretary from December 1942 to April 1945. She writes in German. She notes that she did not type this large-font document and suggests that it was probably prepared by a secretary of Sauckel or Martin Bormann. She adds: "The handwritten corrections in the document clearly come from Hitler himself." Two pieces, fine.
