Description:

ADOLF HITLER
(1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. HITLER CREATES THE POSITION OF WEHRMACHT AIR TRANSPORT CHIEF Important late-war typed D.S. in blue indelible pencil of black "Der Fuhrer" letterhead, 1p. 4to., "Headquarters", Feb. 13, 1945. In part: "...I empower the Commander of the Luftwaffe [Hermann Goring]...appoint an Air Transport Chief of the Wehrmacht. Tasks: Carrying out supply by air, Employment and build-up of air supply strongholds, Assembly of air supply goods and transport in collaboration with the Wehrmacht units and Waffen-SS whom he is entitled to instruct in these matters...". File holes at left, else fine condition. At this point, Hitler's signature was rapidly deteriorating due to Parkinson's and the stress due to constant military defeats. WILHELM "FRITZ" MORZIK (1891-1985), a very experianced pilot and general of transport pilots, had already assumed this task a few days earlier. He had previously organized the supply of soldiers during the five-month battle to relieve the siege of Demjansk in early 1942, for which he had received a Knights Cross. On May 14, 1945 Morzik was captured and he was held until June, 1947.
