Description:

ADOLF HITLER BRONZE BUST BY FERDINAND LEIBERMANN
Most impressive, oversized bronze hollow cast bust of Adolf Hitler by noted German sculptor Ferdinand Liebermann. This massive, expertly-wrought bronze stands 55 cm. (21 5/8 in.) tall and is bolted to its original 6.75 x 7.25 x 5 in. tall green, gray and tan marble base. It is signed 'FERDINAND LIEBERMANN' at the back of the neck. There is a dime-sized spot of verdigris behind the left ear, otherwise the bronze is in fine condition. The base has one small chip to the front left vertical edge and a 1/2 in. thick vertical slab from the rear of the base was broken off at one time. It was carefully reattached and in any event, the repair is not noticeable when viewing from the front. A rare bronze, even more so being undamaged and on an original base. Sculptor Ferdinand Lieberman (1883-1941) was one of the most prominent German sculptors during the Third Reich. He received numerous state commissions and served as an artistic adviser to the city council of Munich. Liebermann sculpted numerous portrait busts of Hitler, and at the 'Great German Art Exhibitions' in the Haus der Kunst he exhibited a total of 16 works. He also completed a bronze bust of Hitler's niece Geli Raubal, from which Hitler had numerous copies made for display in his residences.
