Description:

ADOLF HITLER BROADSIDE: "SOLDIERS OF THE EASTERN FRONT!"
Excellent double-column printed broadside in German, 17 1/2" x 21 1/4", entitled "Soldaten der Ostfront! ("Soldiers of the Eastern Front!") and reprinting a statement released by Adolf Hitler from his headquarters on Oct. 2, 1941. The statement addresses German military forces fighting in Russia, in small part: "... Filled with deepest concern for the being and future of our people, I decided on June 22 to address you prior to the impending act of enemy force. It was the intent of the powers of the Kremlin to destroy not only Germany but all of Europe... Comrades! As you will have learned by now, the enemy prepared himself militarily for an attack on such a great scale that it exceeded our greatest expectations... All of Europe would have been lost... This enemy is not only made up of soldiers, but in a larger part of beasts... The culprits of the system in both cases are the same: Jews and only Jews. Soldiers!... The names of the soldiers of the Wehrmacht, the names of our allies, the names of your division regiments, your ships, and air squadrons will be connected for all time with the most incredible victories in world history... You captured over 2.4 million prisoners, 17,500 tanks, 21,600 artillery destroyed or captured, and shot down or destroyed on the ground 14,200 airplanes. The world has never seen anything like it before. The territory that Germans and our allies currently occupy is twice the size of the German empire of the year 1933, four times the size of the English motherland... In these three and a half months, soldiers, we prepared for the final push, which should destroy the enemy before the beginning of winter. All preparations as far as humanly possible have been fulfilled. Step by step, according to plan, we are prepared to position the enemy to deliver the deadly blow... Today is the beginning of the last deciding battle of this year..." Hitler''s typed signature appears at the conclusion. The predictions laid out here would prove to be short-sighted, as December of 1941 would see the German advance stall just outside of Moscow, beset by supply problems and plagued by the harsh Russian winter weather. The broadside shows folds, with minor splitting thereto, with a Polish inscription in red pencil at the top edge, else very good.
