Description:

ADOLF HITLER 1932 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION POSTER
Rare, multi-color poster promoting Hitler's candidacy in the March 13 or April 19, 1932 German national presidential elections. The poster, measuring 33 x 47 in., was printed by Graphische Werkstatten, Berlin, with text at lower right indicating that this particular poster was distributed in Munich. A youthful, idealized Hitler is shown at upper-left above a crowd of saluting Brownshirts waving Nazi flags. The poster takes aim at Hitler's chief rival Paul von Hindenburg, reading: ‘One man against party interests and a party carcass', referencing the stodgy ways of Hindenburg's entrenched supporters. Among Hindenburg supporters are listed Social Democrats, the ‘Iron Front', State's Party, the rich, German People's Party, etc., along with caricatures of those who supported such parties, three of whom closely resemble the caricatures Hitler would use to represent Jews in later propaganda. The poster further claims that the 11 million who currently support the NSDAP will crush the 18 million Hindenburg supporters…if the viewer is one of them! Hitler lost to Hindenburg in both elections, but constant agitation by his Brownshirts soon paid off: the July 31, 1932 election produced a major victory for Hitler's National Socialist Party, winning 230 seats in the Reichstag and thus making it Germany's largest political party. Archival tape reinforcements to verso, a bit of insignificant marginal wear, overall quite fine condition and a rare piece.
