ADOLF GALLAND MEDALS WITH OIL PAINTING
(1911 - 1994) German fighter ace of World War II and general of fighters, awarded the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds. Fantastic presentation piece, an original superlative painting, 31.5 x 29 in., depicting a Messerschmitt Bf 109E in the sky flown by Adolf Galland and attractively presented in a gilt frame. The border is comprised of images of various squadron insignia, badges, flags, coat of arms, and four Luftwaffe eagles at the corners. Signed by aviation artist Raymond Waddey at the bottom right. Titled at the bottom ‘Messerschmitt Bf 109E -4/N Flown by Major Adolf Galland Kommodore Jadgeschwader 26 Battle of Britiain'. The plate above features Galland's signature, cut from a limited-edition print (present), 28 x 20 in. ca. 1980, showing a Bf 109 in an air battle. The artist John Ficklen signs at the bottom right. Marked at the bottom left ‘145/950'. Galland's signature was originally on this print at the bottom center, has since been cut out and added to the painting. Mounted beneath the painting are three pieces of war memorabilia owned by Galland, including his miniature Pilot's badge, Spanish Civil War badge, and a portion of his Iron Cross ribbon. Accompanied by a detailed list of items received by our consignor from the original owner. In part: '...Luftwaffe Fighter General Adolf Galland, a framed original painting under plexiglass - by aviation artist Raymond Waddey...three pieces of Galland's personal memorabilia mounted under the painting: his ultra rare miniature Pilot badge worn on the collar, a Spanish Civil War era piece; a section of his Iron Cross 2nd class ribbon; and a rare stick pin worn by him when he entered Swedish clandestine airplane factories...'
