Description:

ADOLF GALLAND'S POSTWAR PILOT'S BADGE (1957)
Finely crafted Pilot's Badge attributed to ADOLF GALLAND (1911 - 1994) German fighter ace of World War II and general of fighters, awarded the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds. This two-piece construction badge exhibits an eagle that has been manufactured as a de-Nazified type, and is attached to the wreath with two hollow rivets, seen on the reverse. The gilding of the wreath and silver frosting of the eagle in excellent condition. This example is not maker marked, but a beautiful piece with wonderful association. Accompanied by an email between our consignor and the original owner. In part: '...You will recall I offered you the Galland Battle of Britain Pilot badge, with its accompanying letters of transferrable, documents showing provenance and photos from his personal album, plus a framed display with the flight badge and Galland's letter, and autograph, and I will include the Pilot/Observer 'de-Nazified' and in beautiful condition...' We cannot attest to this badge being actually worn by Adolf Galland, but this piece matches identically with his badge as seen worn in postwar photos of him, whilst wearing his pilot's uniform.
