Lot of three war-date documents concerning Mtr. Ober Gefr. Paul Mattern, serving on the ADMIRAL SCHEER. Included is: award certificate for the Iron Cross, 2nd Class, 1p. 8vo., Apr. 1, 1941, signed by Captain THEODORE KRANCKE; possession certificate for the Memel Medal and the EK II issued on Apr. 4, 1941; and an award certificate for the Naval War Badge, for participation in the war cruises of ADMIRAL SCHEER, issued on Nov. 5, 1941 and signed by the commander of the cruiser, Vice Admiral HUBERT SCHMUNDT. Punch holes, folds and some scattered soiling, overall very good. THEODOR KRANCKE (1893–1973) was a German admiral and recipient of the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves. Under his command, the ADMIRAL SCHEER sank 13 merchant ships and one armed merchant cruiser, and captured three merchant ships. Krancke was also in charge of all German naval forces and naval coastal artillery during the D-Day invasion. HUBERT SCHMUNDT (1888–1984) was also a German admiral and Knight's Cross recipient commanding Northern Norway (1941–42) including commanding Operation Wunderland and German forces in the Baltic.

Shipments are sent via USPS Priority, USPS International Priority, DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
