266. JOHN ADAMS (1735 - 1826) Second President of the United States and a drafter of the Declaration of Independence, which he also signed. He later joined Franklin and Jay to negotiate peace with Great Britain. Scarce partly-printed A.D.S. signed "Adams" on the verso of a partly-printed legal document, 1p. 8vo., Boston, Dec. 12, 1768, also bears over 100 words in Adams' hand on recto, authorizing a sheriff to bring a defendant into court. Folds with about 1" splits at margins reinforced with archival tape, light staining, very good. $1,000 - 1,200
