"John Quincy Adams" as Secretary of State, 1p. folio, Washington, May 22, 1821, a passport issued to Lewis D. Carpentier, Jr., physically describing him at left, with eagle device at top, and multiple French endorsements and wax seals on verso. Folds and fold splits with some negligible losses thereat, some toned spots, nothing affecting Adams' bold signature, overall good to very good. An uncommon document. $500-600
