ABRAHAM LINCOLN
(1809-1865) Sixteenth President of the United States who led the Union through the Civil War and emancipated the slaves, assassinated. Fine partly-printed check made out and signed by Lincoln "A. Lincoln", 7" x 2 1/4", blue printing with a vignette at left showing a locomotive and passenger cars, Springfield, Feb. 16, 1859 making payment of $26.03 to John Williams, a local merchant supported by the Lincolns for many years. Cut cancel and spindle hole with no paper loss and affecting nothing, else very fine. Very nicely matted with a small mounted oval albumen of Lincoln as president on an embossed mount, all set into an ornate oak frame. Beautiful!
