OLIVER OTIS HOWARD (1830 - 1909) Union major general and Medal of Honor winner who led his division at Chancellorsville, Fredericksburg, and was senior commander at Gettysburg. T.L.S. 1p. 4to., New York, Dec. 17, 190[0], on letterhead imprinted for Lincoln's Birthday Celebration the following year to Gen. Horatio C. King, former U.S. Postmaster General, regarding the planning of the festivities. In part: "...I request the honor of your name on our General Committee. The purpose is the celebration of Lincoln's Birthday...February 11th next at Carnegie Hall...Hon. Henry Watterson of Louisville, Ky. will deliver the oration on Lincoln. 'The Peoples Choral Union' under the personal direction of Mr. Frank Damrosch will sing their choruses...". Frank Heino Damrosch (1859-1937) was a conductor and educator and, for many years, chorus master of the Metropolitan Opera. Very good condition, and, with illustrated letterhead, quite attractive for display.
