Description:

(ABRAHAM LINCOLN) - CONFEDERATE NEWSPAPER
Confederate newspaper account of Lincoln's renomination, folio sheet from the Confederate newspaper "Daily Dispatch, Richmond, June 14, 1864". Two columns dedicated to the Baltimore Convention that renominated Lincoln. Reads in part: "After further debate...the convention then proceeded to ballot for the President...The first resolution...demands the suppression of the rebellion by force of arms...Why Hannibal Hamlin was set aside, and why Andrew Johnson of all men regarded as the man for Vice President, we do not pretend to know...It may have been supposed that his name would give strength to Old Abe among the old line War Democracy...". There is much more excellent content, including "Why Grant did not get the nomination...". Fine.
